Where can I buy this walker?

Question

I am looking for the U-Step 2 Walking Stabilizer to purchase/rent in Canada. I've tried calling up U-Step and they provided 3 distributors but nobody carries this walker. If you can point us in the right direction, that would be great. Thank you!

Our answer

Laser and Sound Walker, by U-stepThe U-Step Walker is specially designed to address the needs of users with neurological conditions. It has seven wheels for extra stability. There is an optional Laser & Sounding Cueing Module that helps to overcome freezing associated with Parkinson’s. Unfortunately, it can be difficult to find and purchase for customers in British Columbia. Thankfully, there are a number options to explore, some may be more appropriate than others depending on your situation.

When purchasing any kind of mobility equipment, a consultation with a regulated health professional, such as an occupational therapist (OT) or physiotherapist (PT), is recommended to ensure that the device is appropriate and safe for you and your environment.

If you prefer to purchase in-store:

  • Island Mediquip sells the U-Step 2, but it may not be available in at your nearest location. It's recommended to call your nearest location to confirm availability. Island Mediquip has stores in Victoria, Duncan, Nanaimo, Courtenay, and Campbell River.
  • Camel Senior does not have the product in stock, but has previously brought one in to sell to a client – something they expressed they would gladly do again. They are located in Richmond.
  • Sunquest Mobility does not have the product in stock, but it is something they are able to bring in for customers who are interested in purchasing one. If you are interested you can call the store at 778-397-8083. They are located in New Westminster.
  • If you are located in other parts of BC and prefer to purchase in-store, try reaching out to your local medical equipment store. They may have the item in stock, but not advertised online, or they may be able to bring in a unit for you to try out.

If you are comfortable with purchasing online:

If you are primarily interested in the laser line feature, the Gemino 30 Parkinson’s Rollator by Sunrise Medical offers similar functionality. However, this walker does not have the seven-wheeled stability of the U-Step, instead it has four large wheels. It is for sale at nsm-seating.ca which has locations across the Lower Mainland where you may be able to try it out. If you do intend to test the device, it’s best to call ahead to ensure it is available at that location. This product costs about $1350 (CDN).
