Question

Our answer

Falls can be a frightening and stressful experience for both the individual and their spouse. Helping a spouse up after a fall can also pose a risk to safety to the person doing the lifting. Thankfully, there are some options for restoring a fallen person to standing after a fall without putting a spouse at risk. Below are a few options you may wish to explore:

  • Resqup Floor Recovery Mobility Aid, by Safe Patient SolutionsResQUp Patient Lift by Safe Patient Solutions, LLC. (at activeforever.com) is a three-leveled stepping stool ergonomically designed to help a person return to sitting or standing position after a fall. The device costs about $420 (USD). While Safe Patient Solution does not sell directly to Canada at this time, they do have a distributor that does ship internationally and has sold a number of units to Canadian customers. That distributor is Living Spiral
  • Human Floor Lift by IndeeLift is a motorized lift plugged into the wall to help restore a fallen person to a standing position. The device can be operated by the fallen individual alone, or with help from another person. It costs about $2,200 (USD). It is also available online from myhomeforlife.com.
  • Elk Lifting Cushion by Mangar (at Amazon Canada) is a battery powered inflatable lifting cushion that raises a fallen person up to a sitting position with the help of one assistant. The device costs about $2,000 to $3,000 (CDN). It is also available from SelfCare Home Health Products in the Greater Vancouver area.
  • Raizer is a battery-operated mobile lifting chair that raise a fallen person up to a sitting position with the help of one assistant. The device costs $6,000 (CDN). While it is not currently listed on their site, it is available from 101 Mobility in Richmond.
